Central Rain is the first solo project for Melbourne musician Luke Thomas (The Pictures, Deserters, The Ronson Hangup). Atmospheric and reflective, the songs are reminiscent of writers such as Steve Kilbey, Neil Finn and Grant McLennan. Never one to pander to mainstream radio tastes, Thomas writes from the heart and the songs are produced without studio trickery to stand on their own merit.
On stage they take on a dynamic new sound in the hands of a five-piece band of friends and familiar faces (including The Ronson Hangup’s Mal Pinkerton on cello). Central Rain’s debut mini-album is due for release in 2015 on Popboomerang Records, and the band is offering a free teaser CD single to the first ten people to join their mailing list on the night.
Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Leena Thavisin was a touring musician for 10 years. Signed to EMI/Capitol records, she made a record at the infamous Sunset Sound in Los Angeles with Joe Chicarelli (U2, Frank Zappa, The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket), and has toured with Rufus Wainwright, Paul Dempsey, Tim Rogers and more. Currently she is half of Voix D’Or, formed with good friend Shane Reilly (Tex Perkins’ Band Of Gold, Lost Ragas).
