Drawing on influences such as Junior Wells, Big Mama Thornton, Slim Harpo, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, BB King & Buddy Guy, Miss Whiskey are a harmonica-driven acoustic swamp blues duo based in Melbourne. Coming off the back of a stunning performance at Melbourne’s White Night, and fresh off a victory lap of America’s Deep South, Miss Whiskey will electrify the Yarra stage with a brand of blues all their own.
Support on this fine Sunday afternoon will come from the one-and-only Dan Dinnen. He plays finger-picking acoustic guitar, tasty blues harp and sings up a storm with his rich, soulful vocals. Playing originals and blues standards, from smoking ballads to juke joint stomps, Dan draws on a wide range of blues influences, especially the deep well of old time, pre-war and country blues styles. Dinnen is a dynamic, energetic blues performer with an authentic feel and style.
Dan has accompanied some of Melbourne’s finest blues musicians on both harp and guitar and has gigged in every state and territory around Australia, both as a soloist, bandleader and sideman. Dinnen has previously won the award for MBAS Blues Performer of the Year, and has been to the US to compete in the International Blues Challenge on Beale Street, Memphis Tennessee.
